Location: Manor - Dining Hall (Day)
Akira: Mmmm. Something smells really nice…
It was a beautiful sunny morning. The corridor was filled with a pleasant aroma of sweet and savory food, tempting me to head towards the dining hall.
Rutile: Oh, hey, Master Sage!
Akira: Hey, Rutile. Ah, everyone’s here as well.
And there was Rutile, Mitile as well as Chloe and the twins. All of them were gathered together and appeared to be waiting for something.
Akira: Everyone looks very excited about something. What’s up?
Rutile: Hehe. The thing is…
Nero: Here ya go. Sorry to kept y’all waitin’.
Nero popped out from the kitchen all of a sudden, mouthwatering tarts in hand.
The freshly baked, adorned with fruit tarts had a smell so fragrant my stomach started churning from that scent alone.
Rutile - Mitile: Wowww!
Snow - White: My, oh my! They look rather scrumptious!
Chloe: We’ve been itching to try out the tarts Nero made!
Nero: Wanna try them out also, Mamsir Sage? I was able to snag some ripe fruits back at the Central marketplace yesterday, so I ended up baking some tarts.
Akira: Oh, thank you! I’d love to!
Nero: Don’t mention it. I gotta head back to the kitchen though since I’m still baking up some more. Lemme know if ya want another tart or two.
(Footsteps)
Akira: Well, time to dig in…Wow, it’s yummy!
Mitile: So sweet and sugary that it melts in your mouth…! I have to make sure to save some for Riquet!
Akira: Oh, I just realized…Riquet’s not around? If he knew that Nero’s making desserts, he would have popped up here in an instant.
White: ‘Tis a bright day, you see. It looks as if Riquet snuck out with Arthur to visit the Central marketplace.
Snow: The rest are out for training or out for a stroll. Murr also left for somewhere while riding on a carpet.
Akira: A-A carpet…?
(Maybe he wasn’t in the mood of using a broom to fly in the first place…)
Rutile: It truly makes you want to go for a walk outside when the weather’s all wonderful, doesn’t it?
Mitile: I agree. It might be a good idea to visit the South today.
Rutile: The sun’s still shining up high in the skies, so how about we take these along with us and go outside? We should pack up a basket filled with treats and desserts and go for a picnic!
Akira: The South? Do you guys have any plans going there?
Rutile: Mitile and I have been planning on going to the South so we could discover more about the Walpurgis Night celebration.
Akira: The celebration of Walpurgis Night, huh…
Hearing that familiar name, I remembered its significance.
Akira: It’s a festival for wizards, correct?
Chloe: Yes, you’re right!
Mitile: In the South, everyone from all kinds of things from humans to wizards, spirits, animals and even the greenery are said to partake in the celebration of the coming of spring.
‘Til now, I thought it was something that came out from a storybook…
Chloe: If I remember correctly, Walpurgis was also celebrated in the North atop some magical mountain, right?
Snow: You are correct. If I am not mistaken, you participated in the feast as well.
Chloe: Yeah, I did. Although it was teensy daunting at times, I still had tons of fun!
Akira: If we went ahead to discover more about the feast, does that imply the Walpurgis Night at the South exists too?
Rutile: …I’m not quite sure. I just have a feeling I’ve been there once, although I was little at the time.
Chloe: Wait, what? Really?
Rutile: Yeah. I must’ve been very little, but I vaguely remember witnessing a beautiful scene of both spirits and animals gathering together in a beautiful forest and having lots of fun.
Mitile: You said you can’t remember where it was held though…
Snow: I see. It must be a peculiar memory for you, indeed. We have not recalled this kind of festival occurring in the South as well.
Akira: However, it’s rather exciting to think that things that only come in fairy tales end up being true.
Rutile: Yes! Very much so!
And even if I do not recall where it took place, I still haven’t forgotten the experience I had during that time. I was filled with so much glee and joy and yet, for some reason, I couldn’t help but be moved to tears.
It was as if I had stepped into a storybook and become the main character of a wonderful tale…
After sharing all of this, Rutile quietly closed his eyes. Perhaps he was cherishing all of the fond feelings, both peculiar and heartwarming, that satisfied his heart when he was a young kid.
Being moved to tears whilst filled with all the happiness in the world was a scene far beyond my imagination.
Rutile: If you’d like, we could—
(Footsteps)
Shylock: Why, hello Master Sage. I’m rather pleased to see you around here.
As everyone was having a fun time, Shylock, Rustica, and Cain joined us in the dining hall.
There was an uptight expression marked on Cain’s face for some reason.
Akira: You guys, is there something wrong?
Cain: Yeah. We got an urgent request from Cock Robin. Looks like there was an incident that happened in the South caused by the < Great Calamity >.
Mitile: In the South…? What could’ve possibly…
Shylock: …In a small village near the South Tower, a young girl began to act abnormal one day.
She is no longer a human, but rather a brutal and ferocious injured beast.
Rutile - Mitile: …
