✾ Rutile's Magic Specialty If You Go On A School Trip
Akira: In my world…?
Rutile: Yes. I’m always curious about what’s different about the schools in your world.
Akira: I see. At the schools in my world, people of the same ages attend classes at the same institution. We all learn and study together in different classrooms.
Our teachers would teach us on various subjects such as writing and counting methods. We’d also go on school trips…
Rutile: I have never come across the word “school trip” before. Do you know what that word is supposed to mean?
Akira: Well, it’s a trip where everyone travels together to a different place to learn about their local culture and its customs…
Rutile: Sounds like a very exciting school activity. I can see how it could strengthen the friends’ bonds even more! If you go on a school trip with the Southern country students, where do you want to go?
Akira: Let’s see...the Northern Country is the farthest from the Southern Country, not to mention that the cold weather is harsh–– back to top
––––
Rutile: My father was a teacher in the Southern Country too. He was a simple, soft-spoken, and kind who’s well-liked by the kids.
Akira: Soft-spoken and kind...so he was like Lennox?
Rutile: Hmm, he’s not as sharp as Mister Lennox is.
Maybe someone like Mister Rustica and Heathcliff resemble him more.
Ahh! Although he was from a different lineage compared to those two, my father was still very handsome.
My mother Tiletta was attracted to his good looks and would get pissed off by Dr. Figaro who teased her about it. Hehe, that’s what I thought also.
Akira: Well, they seemed to be a beautiful married couple. I’m convinced that Rutile is a lovely and gentle person––I can see in your personality how you resemble your parents.
Rutile: Ahaha! Sage, you flatter me! I’m actually delighted to be told that I resemble my parents. I love both my mother and father very dearly.
My father was knowledgeable about many things and was amazing at teaching––he always wanted me to become a teacher like him.
My dream is to be both a wizard like my mother and a teacher like my father.
How to Deal With Mithra
Rutile: Mister Mithra is feeling unwell and is having trouble falling asleep, so I thought I’d brew some tea for him. Would you also like a cup?
Akira: Thank you so much. I’m in your debt!
I noticed that you have been taking care of Mithra well recently. Did you guys become friends?
Rutile: I have no idea. I don’t think I hate him at all, and I'd like to think he probably doesn't hate me and isn’t a bad person.
Since Mister Mithra uses powerful magic, he can pass off as frightening to others and has the urge to get violent and angry all of the sudden.
He’s generally an easy-going person, which I can relate to in some way, so I believe that we’ll get along well in the end.
And although he’s much older, he can get childish sometimes.
Whenever I get turned off by his behavior, I get reminded of what my students were like back when I was a teacher in my hometown.
And then eventually...I figured out the trick.
Akira: Is that the trick for how to get along?
Rutile: Right! If I get mad, I’ll try to act nice to them. Then, they’ll respond with a strange face and say nothing!
I have been using this strategy lately.
Akira: Ahaha! Looks like it has been effective! I’ll make sure to use this trick the next time I come across trouble.
Mitile: Geez! Brother! What did I tell you!?
Rutile: Yes, I know, but can you please wait a little longer? You’re losing your cool...
Mitile: This is all your fault but you ended up blaming it all on me!?
Akira: What’s going on, you two? You’re like two peas in a pod but now, you’re arguing.
Mitile: Please listen, Master Sage! I was mad at my brother because he’s careless! And now, he’s making me look like the bad guy!
Akira: ...Is Rutile in trouble?
Rutile: Uhh...yeah. I was going to lend Mitile a book...
Mitile: It was somewhere in my brother’s messy room so I told him to clean his room by this afternoon but then he totally forgot and took a nap instead!
Akira: So you had a quarrel with your brother? Ahaha, that surprised me. I was wondering if something bad happened.
Mitile: Argh! Master Sage laughed at us because of you, brother!
Rutile: I’m sorry, Master Sage. I’m sorry that you have to witness this embarrassing scene.
I’m also sorry, Mitile. I’ll go look for the book right away.
Akira: (It’s funny to see how Mitile’s the one with more composure; the two of them are interesting brothers indeed.)

Rutile's Mana Area
It says that it’s a place that allows the wizard to gather their focus, as well as to refresh their power.
Rutile: A sacred place...I suppose you might be talking about a mana area?
A mana area is a place where a wizard can replenish their mystical power. A place where both nature and the mind relax and unwind.
Akira: That’s probably it! Do you have a mana area too, Rutile?
Rutile: I do. My mana area is a flower garden in my hometown.
As each season passes by, different kinds of flowers bloom––it’s a delightful sight that’ll take your breath away. The fence around the garden stands tall and it's a great place to hide too.
I’d have the time of my life there. I would do all sorts of things that make me happy such as reading books, drawing pictures, and taking afternoon naps. It’s the place that I find the most relaxing for me.
Akira: Sounds fun! After all, it seems like you could just sit back and relax.
Rutile: Yes, that’s the exact feeling I get whenever I use my magic.
I’m put in a comfortable state of calm and tranquil. However, it can also become a fun and thrilling feeling.
Even when I’m not around my mana area, I always feel like my magic is at its peak when I’m near the greenery and flowers.
--
TL Note: Akira used the term パワースポット which literally translates to power spot but some people also refer it as a sacred place, spiritual spot, kiba/energy spot/vortex etc. It’s an area where visitors can experience energies from the Earth and it helps with rejuvenating the body and soul.

Rutile’s Amulet
The amulet gives the same effect as actually being in their mana area. Does this mean that Rutile has his own amulet as well?
Rutile: My amulet is a handcrafted wreath and it can be seen right at the door.
When I first arrived at the manor, Dr. Figaro reminded me to bring along something to remember the beloved flower garden.
Akira: Did you make this wreath all by yourself, Rutile? It looks wonderful!
Rutile: Thank you for your kind words.
When I was exploring the manor for the first time, I stumbled upon a beautiful garden and I immediately thought about whether it was really okay for me to have left my mana area...
You’ll get the immediate feeling of being rejuvenated if you surround yourself with plants that remind you of home. I’ll do my best to reminisce about my hometown today.
Akira: I see… It does make a difference, doesn’t it?

Location: Manor Common Room (Day)
Akira: According to the Sage’s Guide, each wizard has their own sacred place¹ where they can gain spiritual energy.
It says that it’s a place that allows the wizard to gather their focus, as well as to refresh their power.

Rutile’s Amulet
Location: Rutile’s Room (Day)
Akira: According to the Sage’s Guide, if a wizard is far away from their respective mana area for a long time, they should carry an amulet that acts as a substitute for it.
The amulet gives the same effect as actually being in their mana area. Does this mean that Rutile has his own amulet as well?
Rutile: My amulet is a handcrafted wreath and it can be seen right at the door.
Right as he pointed out where it’s located, I turned around to look at the door. There it lay, a wreath that was carefully crafted with handpicked flowers and foliage.
Rutile: As you may know, my mana area is a flower garden in my hometown.
When I first arrived at the manor, Dr. Figaro reminded me to bring along something to remember the beloved flower garden.
Akira: Did you make this wreath all by yourself, Rutile? It looks wonderful!

Option: How about the Central Country?
Rutile: Surely, the Central Country could be the perfect destination for a school trip, with all sorts of foods and cultures from a wide range of different countries!
Option: How about the Western Country?
Rutile: I heard from Chloe that some of the areas can get dangerous so we should make sure to stay on our toes. However, it looks like we can also learn more about the development of magical science.
Option: How about the Eastern Country?
Rutile: I hear that the Eastern Country is famous for its crafts. This could be a great opportunity to get a glimpse in the creation of elaborate works of art such as ceramics and textiles.
The next time I make my visit to the Southern Country, I’ll be sure to make that into a reality! Thank you for the splendid explanation about school trips, Master Sage.

Location: Manor Courtyard (Day)
Akira: Rutile, your mother was a witch right? What kind of person was your father?
Rutile: My father was a teacher in the Southern Country too. He was a simple, soft-spoken, and kind who’s well-liked by the kids.

Rutile: Mister Mithra is feeling unwell and is having trouble falling asleep, so I thought I’d brew some tea for him. Would you also like a cup?

Akira: Those voices are getting a bit noisy. I wonder where they are coming from...

Mitile: This is all your fault but you ended up blaming it all on me!?

A Guessing Game
Rutile: Master Sage? You were calling me, weren’t you? Thanks for the reminder.
Akira: Are you preoccupied with something?
Rutile: I was preparing myself for tomorrow’s magic class. I have already finished for today so I’ll join you in a few.
Other than that, during my free time, I draw pictures and write down the stories I come up with. Do you often read books during your spare time?
Mister Mithra also comes by to visit whenever I invite him to. It feels almost as if he’s listening to me, but he’s not really a chatty person.
Do you also like to take morning walks before breakfast once in a while? The breezy, fresh morning air feels refreshing.
Akira: I haven't checked it out yet but from what I can smell, it smells delicious.
Rutile: Oh wow! Well then, let’s play a guessing game for what’s on the menu then. Whoever loses will hand over their dessert?
Akira: Sounds like a plan! I won’t lose. Maybe...because it smells like cheese…
The Best Design in the World
Location: Woods (Day)
Chloe: Master Sage! Rutile is going to paint a pattern on the cloth!
Rutile: Ehehe! I’m happy to hear that! I have never experienced making clothes before so I’m looking forward to doing this!
It feels like it can be worn by everyone from the West so I want to make sure to keep the bright, fun and charming flavor! What kind of theme do you think will be the most suitable?
Rutile: ≪ Ortonik Setomaouge ≫
Rutile: Thank you for the brilliant idea! When the clothes are done, I’ll make sure that you’ll have the first look!

A Guessing Game
Location: Rutile’s Room
Akira: Rutile! It looks like dinner’s ready.
Rutile: Master Sage? You were calling me, weren’t you? Thanks for the reminder.
Akira: Are you preoccupied with something?
Rutile: I was preparing myself for tomorrow’s magic class. I have already finished for today so I’ll join you in a few.
Choice: What do you do when you’re alone?
Rutile: Dr. Figaro often asks me to collect and create materials for his magic lessons and test those out.
Other than that, during my free time, I draw pictures and write down the stories I come up with. Do you often read books during your spare time?
Choice: Do you invite people to your room?
Rutile: I often do that when I want to have a mini tea party. I have been getting along with Mitile, Riquet, as well Mister Leno, Dr. Figaro, Chloe, and Heath recently.
Mister Mithra also comes by to visit whenever I invite him to. It feels almost as if he’s listening to me, but he’s not really a chatty person.
Choice: What’s your daily schedule like?
Rutile: I see...I haven’t thought about it seriously but I do some physical exercises after I wake up.
Do you also like to take morning walks before breakfast once in a while? The breezy, fresh morning air feels refreshing.
Rutile: That reminds me––I’m starving. Do you know what we are having for dinner?
Akira: I haven't checked it out yet but from what I can smell, it smells delicious.

The Best Design in the World
Location: Woods (Day)
Akira: Hello, Rutile and Chloe. Are you guys unfolding a large cloth together? What are you guys up to?
Chloe: Master Sage! Rutile is going to paint a pattern on the cloth!
The colors from Rutile’s paintings are fresh, lively and very intriguing. For sure, it will look amazing when it gets made into clothes!
Choice: A jack-in-the-box theme?
Rutile: Sounds like a great idea! I want to create something that looks similar to the magic used by Mister Murr! Something like fireworks and storms erupting!
Choice: A circus theme?
Rutile: Sounds like fun! Maybe something similar to the magical drawings by Mister Shylock! Something like all sorts of animals dancing gracefully!
Choice: An amusement park theme?
Rutile: An amusement park, you say? That must be a place from the different world that Master Sage used to be in.
Chloe: Now then, let’s get ourselves ready!!
≪ Suispicibo Voitengok ≫
Rutile: ≪ Ortonik Setomaouge ≫
Rutile’s paints swirled and twirled on the cloth that Chloe had magically spread out, creating a vibrant pattern as it went.
Akira: How wonderful…! The end result is very lovely to look at!
Rutile: Thank you for the brilliant idea! When the clothes are done, I’ll make sure that you’ll have the first look!

A Substitute for Paint
Rutile: I wanted to paint a picture of a flower but I ran out of pink paint.
There was a flower that looked like it was about to bloom so I thought I’d paint it to capture the moment, but alas...
Akira: ...I got an idea! Rutile, is it alright if you could summon a bottle with your magic?
Rutile: A bottle? Understood!
≪ Ortonik Setomaouge ≫
Akira: Thank you so much! Although it’s not actually paint, you can use other things as a substitute!
First, pour water into this bottle, then add the scattered petals in, and finally, mix them all together.
Rutile: Woah! This is so cool, Master Sage! The color of the water changed into the same shade of pink as the petals!
Akira: This is called watercolor. It’s when the flower’s pigments dissolve in the water and give the water its color.
Rutile: Watercolor...it’s different from the usual paint, it has a magnificent, shimmering color almost as if you’re melting sparkly gemstones...
Thank you so much, Master Sage! Now I can paint up a picture using these.
Alright! Once I’m done with this painting, I’ll make sure to give it to you as a gift. Okay?

TL Note: Akira talks about how you can make paint using flower petals. You can find a DIY tutorial here.
Secret Late Night Drinking
Akira: Oh, Rutile. I see Figaro’s here too. I couldn’t fall asleep for some reason so I thought I should get myself a warm drink.
Figaro: Good timing. Sage, how about you hang out with us for a bit?
This drink is a little strong, but it will knock you out right away once you take a sip.
Rutile: It’s not a good idea if we let them drink something with a high level of alcohol, Dr. Figaro! This is what we’re drinking now, Master Sage.
Figaro: Oh my, I just wanted them to join our late night drinking session.
Rutile: If you try to offer them another drink, I’ll go tell Mitile that you’ve been secretly drinking alcohol behind his back.
Figaro: Whoa whoa, cut it out. I'm just having some fun.
Akira: (Despite drinking such hard alcohol, Rutile’s appearance hasn’t changed at all.)

Rutile’s Magic Specialty
Rutile: What’s the matter, Master Sage?
Akira: I seem to have twisted my neck while I was sleeping last night. I can’t even try to turn my head to the right without it hurting…
Rutile: That’s tough. I’ll go ahead and heal you with magic. Do you mind raising your arms up horizontally?
Akira: My arms? I see...
Akira: Ah... I moved my neck just now, it doesn’t hurt anymore!
You didn’t cast the spell directly on the affected area, did you?
Rutile: If you go to bed, make sure to loosen up the sides of your body, not your neck. You see, those were the affected areas.
My specialty is healing magic. If ever you end up having a small injury or you suddenly feel ill, please let me know right away.
--
TL Note: The way you position yourself while sleeping can be one of the reasons why you’d wake up with a sore neck.
Speed Merchant Rutile
Rutile: Yup. I’ll be going back to the Southern Country today.
As a matter of fact, today’s the birthday of one of my students.
I’m looking forward to seeing him once again and being able to celebrate together!
He’s a hardworking person who enjoys playing with Mitile and is also proactive since he takes initiative to look after the younger kids.
Akira: He must be a wonderful student of yours, isn’t he? However, I wonder…don’t you think it’s a bit of a hassle to go back to the Southern Country?
Rutile: Since I’m going there all by myself, I can make haste! Besides, I’m skilled at flying!
Akira: (By the way, Rutile is normally calm––but right now, it looks like he’s in a hurry…)
Rutile: If you have some urgent matters, you can come along with me at any time, Master Sage!
Akira: T-Thank you very much.
Rutile: No no, don’t worry about it. See you later Master Sage.
Akira: Just like that, he vanished into thin air. He left at the speed of light.
--
TL Note: Rutile mentions that flying is one of his skills in his Affection Story.
Better Safe Than Sorry
Rutile: It’s a huge sale that happens once a month in the Central Country. You’ll come across some rare finds.
Akira: Speaking of which, what are you writing about?
Rutile: It’s an action plan for tomorrow. Since there’s so many people in the Central Country, we’re uncertain about what will happen.
In case you get lost, I’ve marked the location of the place where we're going to have lunch, and I've even drawn some secret shortcuts!
Rutile: Oh, and then, if you stay here for an hour, the next shop closes.
Akira: (He’s just like a travel guide! As expected from a school teacher.)
Rutile: Rest assured, Master Sage! The Sage's bookmarks are specially drawn by me.
--
TL Note: The original title was 備えあれば憂いなし and it is a Japanese proverb lit. meaning “Providing is preventing.” / “It is good to have a shelter against every storm.” but I translated it as “Better safe than sorry” since this is the closest meaning (in English).
Rutile’s Magic Specialty
Location: Manor Dining Hall (Day)
Akira: It hurts…
Rutile: What’s the matter, Master Sage?
Akira: I seem to have twisted my neck while I was sleeping last night. I can’t even try to turn my head to the right without it hurting…
Rutile: That’s tough. I’ll go ahead and heal you with magic. Do you mind raising your arms up horizontally?
Akira: My arms? I see...
Rutile gently pats the sides of my body. He then held onto the joint of my right arm.
Rutile: ≪ Ortonik Setomaouge ≫
The place where he was touching was filled with a warm and fuzzy feeling––at the same time, my arm felt a bit less heavy.
Rutile: How does it feel now?
Akira: Ah... I moved my neck just now, it doesn’t hurt anymore!
You didn’t cast the spell directly on the affected area, did you?
Rutile: If you go to bed, make sure to loosen up the sides of your body, not your neck. You see, those were the affected areas.

Flying With Rutile
I plan to buy some cakes right away––however, I wanted to ask if you would like to come along with me, Master Sage?
Akira: Fluffy, you say…! That sounds tempting. I’ll have to accept your offer.
Rutile: Heehee, thank you so much! Now then, without further ado.
≪ Ortonik Setomaouge ≫
Stay right behind me. Please make sure to hold on tight!
––
Rutile: What’s wrong, Master Sage? Did you leave something behind?
Akira: Oh no, it’s just that the flying speed was slower than I had expected.
Rutile: Since you’re accompanying me, I thought it’d be better to fly a bit slower so we could enjoy observing the scenery above us.
But would you rather like it if we went faster? Let’s speed up right away!
Akira: I-It’s alright, Rutile. Please just leave it as it is…!
Rutile: Why, hello Master Sage! I’m making name plates for everyone.
Akira: Name plates?
Rutile: Mitile said it’s difficult to remember which room is which. Because of that, I wanted to make plates to display on the doors.
Actually, I finished your name plate just now. If you want, please take a look!
Akira: Thank you so much. Wow! This looks so cute with all of these doodles drawn!
...I still can’t read the writing of this world but, from what I can grasp, Rutile’s handwriting is beautiful.
The soft and elegant lettering is very lovely to look at!
Rutile: Hehe. Even my mother once praised me for my wonderful handwriting.
Because of this, it’s important to me that my writing is done beautifully.
Rutile: It makes me happy to hear this kind praise from Master Sage.
Akira: That must be a lovely, cherished memory. Very well, this name plate will be displayed on my door right away.
Flying With Rutile
Location: Manor Garden (Day)
Rutile: Master Sage! By the way, when I visited the Central City, I came across this shop that sells fluffy and delectable cakes!

Location: Sky (Day)
Akira: ...Hm?
Rutile: What’s wrong, Master Sage? Did you leave something behind?
Akira: Oh no, it’s just that the flying speed was slower than I had expected.
Rutile: Since you’re accompanying me, I thought it’d be better to fly a bit slower so we could enjoy observing the scenery above us.
But would you rather like it if we went faster? Let’s speed up right away!
Akira: I-It’s alright, Rutile. Please just leave it as it is…!

Rutile’s Crest
Rutile: Yes, it’s right here.
Akira: Snow’s and White’s crests mirror each other too. Does this happen when some wizards are blood related?
Rutile: Being a chosen wizard and having my own crest that will stay for a long time is quite endearing. It’s hard to put my feelings into words!
I feel overjoyed experiencing the bond of brotherhood. It makes me feel like the both of us are doing our very best together.
Akira: Is that so… It may be a tough role to handle, but it's probably reassuring to think so.
Rutile: It’s hard work, but not as hard as what the Master Sage from the different world has to go through.
If you have any problems, I’d be glad to help you with anything. Please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Rutile’s Crest
Location: Manor Hall (Day)
Akira: Rutile, your crest is located on your right wrist.
Rutile: Yes, it’s right here.
Rutile slowly rolled up his right sleeve and showed me the inner side of his wrist. A crest that resembles a black birthmark is shown clearly.
Rutile: Mitile’s crest is also in the same place, but it’s on his left wrist.
Akira: Snow’s and White’s crests mirror each other too. Does this happen when some wizards are blood related?

Location: Manor Common Room (Day)
Akira: What are you writing, Rutile?
Rutile: Why, hello Master Sage! I’m making name plates for everyone.
Akira: Name plates?
Rutile: Mitile said it’s difficult to remember which room is which. Because of that, I wanted to make plates to display on the doors.
Actually, I finished your name plate just now. If you want, please take a look!

Memories and Alcohol
Rutile: Oh, Master Sage. Mitile went to bed early so the three of us are drinking together.
Figaro: I’m keeping an eye on Rutile so that he doesn’t overdrink.
Rutile: Dr. Figaro doesn’t want me to drink too much, does he?
Lennox: Neither of us do.
Figaro: Didn’t the three of us drink together to celebrate Rutile’s coming of age before?
Rutile: Oh yes! If I remember correctly, that night was such a blast! Drunken Mister Lennox was also a rare sight to see!
Lennox: I was startled because Rutile is the kind of person who would drink to the point where he’ll get knocked out. However, that time, I completely went for it...
Akira: I see, I’m surprised to hear this!
Rutile: Actually, I’m a very strong drinker. I hope that you join us next time for a drink, Master Sage!

TL Notes:
- Rutile is referring to mulled wine, it’s said to help remedy common colds.
- Figaro’s most likely talking about the celebration of “Coming of Age” of a person’s adulthood for those who reached the age of maturity (20 years old). It’s a special holiday in Japan.
Memories and Alcohol
Location: Manor Bar (Night)
Akira: Hello Rutile. I see that you’re relaxing with Figaro and Lennox.
Choice: Do the three of you drink a lot?
Rutile: Since we arrived at the manor, we’ve met up a few times for drinks at Mister Shylock’s bar but...
Choice: Did you often drink in your hometown?
Rutile: Oh no! I’ll only drink for special events such as festivals, celebrations and the like. Other than that, it only happens sparingly.
I also used to drink warm wine infused with fruits and cinnamon. It helps in preventing and clearing up colds.

Bar Etiquette
Akira: It has such a beautiful color… Have the two of you known each other for some time now?
Rutile: Nope, we only met when I first arrived at the manor. However, Mister Shylock is a relaxed and knowledgeable person––he’s someone who is easy to talk to!
The important thing to remember is to look after your physique so that you’ll have a good time drinking and getting intoxicated. Isn’t that right, Mister Shylock?
Shylock: Hehe...yes, exactly. I’m glad my teachings have paid off.
Location: Manor Bar (Night)
Akira: Oh, Rutile and Shylock. It’s rare to see the two of you together.
Rutile: Master Sage, take a seat. Mister Shylock is treating me to an unusual drink.
Akira: It has such a beautiful color… Have the two of you known each other for some time now?
Rutile: Nope, we only met when I first arrived at the manor. However, Mister Shylock is a relaxed and knowledgeable person––he’s someone who is easy to talk to!
Shylock: For someone who’s so young, he has the making of a heavyweight. Rutile is a customer who has been very rewarding for me to have after a long time.
Rutile: Ehehe. Master Sage should join us once again. Doesn’t it feel somewhat cool and mature to gulp down some drinks at the bar?
Akira: I might feel a little dizzy... Not to mention, doesn’t this bar have its own bar etiquette?
Rutile: There’s no solid rules at all. As long as you and the people around you can enjoy drinking, that’s all that matters.

Shylock: Hehe...yes, exactly. I’m glad my teachings have paid off.

Speed Merchant Rutile
Location: Manor Garden (Day)
Akira: Good morning Rutile. Are you planning on going out?

TL Note: Rutile mentions that flying is one of his skills in his Affection Story.

Better Safe Than Sorry
Location: Manor Common Room (Day)
Akira: I’m looking forward to tomorrow, I can’t wait to check out the things that are up at the big sale!

TL Note: The original title was 備えあれば憂いなし and it is a Japanese proverb lit. meaning “Providing is preventing.” / “It is good to have a shelter against every storm.” but I translated it as “Better safe than sorry” since this is the closest meaning (in English).
